Mxit...

I often hear alot of negative about Mxit, but I totally disagree with whatever I hear, as I am now using Mxit for about 3years and I havn't exprienced anything that has harmed me in any way. Mxit is totally safe if you do not give away any of your personal information, also, you have the choice of who you want to chat to and who you don't want to chat to. Mxit is without a doubt, the fastest, cheapest form of social networking available to me.

Technology-Good or Bad?

The question often arrises, is technology good or bad? well my answer is yes, just as everything else, technology has it's PROS as well as it's CONS, however, I feel that people are abusing technology and this is creating alot of chaos etc. therefore we should use everything in moderation with the correct intentions.

The sad truth...

Frightening or what???Yes this is the sad truth... mine and your brothers and sisters are being killed more and more each day. Makes you ponder about what a cruel world we living in.Yet is anything being done to stop this genocide? or are we just laid back and relaxed in our comfort zones?

Some fun times...

Going on camp was deffinately 1 of the best experiences and times ever. It made me develope my social skills, as well as made me get to know my class girls better. It was fun filled and exciting! Deffinately something that I'd want to do again!

What is propaganda?

Propaganda is very objective and aims at changing ones mindset by indoctrinating them. Propaganda is done by persuading people, either to do with political, religious or commercial issues. Propaganda is distributed in many different forms of media such as the radio, television, newspapers. Propaganda is very sensationalized and dramatic for hyperbole. Propaganda distorts the truth in order to gain people into believing their ideologies.

My views on a school uniform...

We are all unique and different and therefore should be given the opportunity to express ourselves and our culture and this cannot be attained by wearing a school uniform. South-Africa is a democratic country and we have our human rights. Wearing a school uniform infringes many of these rights such as The Right of belief and opinion as well as the Freedom of expression. It is very important for us to express ourselves in the manner which we want to because we should be proud of whom we are and should accept our faults rather than covering it up by wearing a school uniform. Our personalities should be expressed and this should be done by expressing our style to those around us especially in school. Our dressing should be our form of identification and people should be able to identify us from the way we dress and the way we present ourselves and by wearing a school uniform this cannot happen as a uniform standardises us and gives us a general form of identification. Our clothes also gives us a sense of belonging and that’s why students should be allowed to dress how they want to.
Also, uniforms are quite expensive and this may be a problem to many parents as it is an unnecessary expense, especially to those parents who are unemployed or do not have much money. School uniforms are academically orientated and will never be used again or worn out of school whereas your normal casual clothes can be worn any time and thus does not go to a waste. Most children feel uncomfortable and do not like wearing a uniform and this is a factor which keeps them away from school.

Are we doing anything to help?

Assa la mu alaikum today I’m going to be speaking about -- the greatest environmental challenge facing this planet.
The first seven months of 2006 were the warmest since climate record-keeping began in 1895. And on every scientists projection, it’s only going to get warmer. The question is how warm? If temperature increases are kept to 1 to 2 degrees, it is manageable. But if warming increases to 5 to 9 degrees or even more, the effects on our planet will be catastrophic. We must begin to take action and save our planet.
So, each of us is confronted with a choice -- a choice that will impact not only our future, but the futures of generations to come. Do we live as if nothings wrong? Or do we make the changes needed to prevent catastrophe?
How has global warming become so serious? Quite simply, we are addicted to fossil fuels. And it is the usage of these fuels – coal, oil, gasoline and natural gas and the resultant greenhouse gas emissions – that is the primary cause of global warming. Carbon dioxide, the most plentiful of the greenhouse gases, is produced by power plants, cars, manufacturing, and residential and commercial buildings. And here is the key: Carbon dioxide doesn't dissipate. It stays in the atmosphere for five decades or more – causing Earth's temperature to rise. That means that the carbon dioxide produced in the 1950s, 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s is still in the atmosphere today. And the carbon dioxide produced today will still be in the atmosphere in 2050 and beyond.
The Earth has already warmed 1 degree in the past century and we're seeing the dramatic effects: * The 1990s were the hottest decade on record. * Glaciers are melting; coral reefs are dying; species are disappearing. * Extreme weather patterns have evolved – heat waves, droughts, hurricanes, and floods – and they are occurring with greater frequency and greater intensity. Things will only get worse as temperatures rise. The question is how much will the increase be?
If temperatures increase by another 1 to 2 degrees over the next 50 years, we will see major -- but manageable -- shifts in the world around us: But if nothing is done…if the Earth warms 5 degrees or more in the next 50 years, the face of our planet will change forever. According to scientific estimates: * Three out of five species would become extinct. Oceans would rise. Flooding would occur. Hurricanes, tornadoes and weather would become more volatile than ever. Malaria would spread.. * Sea levels would rise more than 2 feet, leading to 100-year floods every 10 years. * Risk of catastrophic wildfire would more than double. * Energy demands would increase 10 to 20 percent. So, we're at a tipping point.
Refuse to act, or act too slowly, and humans will have caused the most sudden temperature shift in the history of the planet. But, if we act soon and decisively, global warming can be limited to 1 to 2 degrees. This, I contend, should be our goal. America emits 25 percent of the world's greenhouse gases, This makes the U.S. the largest emitter of greenhouse gases in the world yet they aint doing much to help. Cars and trucks in the United States produce nearly 1.2 billion tons of carbon dioxide a year – which is playing a great role in global warming.
As long as our nation continues its addiction to oil, we cannot sufficiently slow the warming trend. Rather, we quickly need to get up and running on developing new, clean technologies and alternative fuels or else our children and grandchildren are going to face major catastrophes in the future. So I now leave you with the choice, are you going to get up and save our planet, or are you just going to sit back, relax and watch it slip through our fingers..like that…

Something to think about...

Assala-mu-alaikum today I am going to be speaking about the feelings of a soldier and I start of by quoting a few lines from Sir Thomas Wyatt’s poem- I Find No Peace. Quote “I find no peace and all my war is done I fear and hope. I burn and freeze like ice.” Unquote.
I’m sure you all already got the shivers down your spine because yes war is a horrible thing, it affects the entire world, and I can only imagine the terrifying experiences that a soldier would face.
Many at times soldiers go to war thinking that they are committing a noble and honorable action for their country, yet they are going forward and killing many innocent people as well as woman and children.
But the trauma and psychological pain that a soldier goes through is deep too. As after a war, you would definitely be scarred for the rest of your life both physically and mentally, knowing that you killed your fellow brother, an expecting mother, a child with a bright future ahead.
How can you live with so much of guilt, so much of pain, a soldier might say that it was unintentional but a must, well I say that no matter what religion, what race, what creed, what sex, we should all stand together and live in unity as at the end of the day not only is the defeated party being hurt, but also the other.
I pray everyday that this time of genocide and brutal killings in the middle east would end for it is not only having an impact on the protagonists and antagonists but on you and I aswell. And these inhuman rulers that are for war should think again as they should consider the lives of the soldiers family, it is not an easy situation to be in knowing that your husband or son is in war and may never return and all the praise and recognition that they have received as a soldier means absolutely nothing as their lives could be snatched away at any second.
I leave you with an image of soldiers being sent off to war with garlands of flowers around their necks as a symbol of honor, yet this may just be the last flowers that they would ever receive.

My cover story

Ever wondered?
By: Ayesha Moosa
Do you believe in superstitions or do you find it as a mere topic to laugh at due to some of the ridiculous beliefs? Well whether you fall into category A or B, superstitions are very prevalent in today’s times as well as in the time of Julius Caesar.
One of the most common superstitious practices in the times of Caesar was that of the feast of Lupercal. Caesar’s wife Calphurnia was infertile, but he on the other hand was becoming more and more powerful. At the feast, Antony was commanded by Caesar to touch Calphurnia so that she may fall pregnant. My opinion on this scene was that Caesar knew his power was growing rapidly, yet he had no children and was thus hungry to continue his legacy. So after all was he really fit to be the leader on the long run? As he hardly had any immediate family support.

The feast of Lupercal is celebrated on the 15th of February each year and there are many soothsayers, magicians etc. around too, thus again creating a very strong image of superstition. Valentines is celebrated in honour of the Roman God of Fertility, which therefore links up with Lupercal. Love is all around in this month, even in the air that you breathe!

After reading the above you may think that the Romans were insane, because how can a lady fall pregnant if a man just strokes her with his hand? However, superstitions are still very prevalent in today’s modern times. For eg. People still fear Friday the 13th, if this was such a chaotic or day to be afraid of then why is it in the calendar anyways? Also it is said that if you break a mirror you will have 7years of bad luck; I wonder how many mirrors I’ve broken and how many years of bad luck I have ahead of me.
From my personal view and opinion as a Muslim, I feel that these thoughts and practices are mere stupidity and foolishness rather then something you can actually relate to. Also I know that my taqdeer (faith) has been written out for me by my creator and can changed by non other than him, the lords of the worlds.

My letter to Mr Yawar Baig:
Feedback on The Power Of One Presentation
Assalamualaikum brother Yawar.
My name is Ayesha Moosa and I attend the Roshnee Islamic School in Roshnee.
I'd just like to give my feedback on the presentation The Power Of One,
presented by Mr Abullah Sujee on the 22/01/2008.
This presentation has helped me draw up my mission and vision statement in a
more matured manner as it has made me realize how oblivious the youth of
today can actually be. It also opened up my mind, and made me think of
issues on a different level. Before the presentation I didn't even question
certain issues, but after the presentation I have learnt to question things
as an adult would, I've also decided to be optimistic in life and t become
an innovator rather than an imitator.
Jazakallah.

His reply:
Wa alaikum salaam Sr. Ayesha,

"Become an innovator rather than an imitator." Do I have your permission to
use your quote? How well you put it. We need to stand out as Standard
Bearers of Islam. Not blend in as yet another sheep in the flock. Stand out,
not blend in. That is my quote. But your's is better. If my presentation and
thoughts helped you to draw out your mission and vision statement and if you
were the only person in the whole world who was able to do this, even then
the purpose of my writing would be fulfilled. Alhamdulillah I ask Allah to
reward you and to use you for the work of His Deen.

It is true that youth are oblivious of things. That is not surprising. At 16
or 18 you don't expect global awareness. But at 40 and 50? But today it is
those who are more than 40 years old who are the creators of the problems
that face us. After all if we look around us today, there is not a single
problem that was created by the youth of this world. Every single one of
them was created by their cynical, corrupt, self serving elders. I say this
not because I believe that elders should not be respected. But to show you
that age alone is not a guarantee of anything except death. The older you
are the closer to death you are getting (that is why I can't understand how
anyone 'celebrates' a birthday). I am saying this so that we can remind
ourselves that wisdom, good actions, leaving a legacy of goodness are all
choices. They will not automatically happen on their own. I am sure all
those who are at the root of the problems of the world were well meaning
youth at some point in their lives. But today?

And that is what we need to guard against. Never let the world decide what
you are going to do. It is your life. You take the calls. Do what does you
honor. Follow your heart. But first clean the heart of desire and fill it
with the love of Allah. The muttaqi's heart is the best guide. But only the
heart of the muttaqi. Not every heart. So the first requirement of the heart
which has the power to guide is taqwa of Allah. The road to that is the
waking in the night and standing before Allah. And if you do that in your
youth, then remember the promise of RasoolAllah (SAS) that Allah will give
the youth who remember Him in their youth, a place in the shade under His
Throne. May Allah make you among those who will be given this place. So
stand before Allah and ask Him to give you the power to change the world. I
ask Allah to listen to your dua and to make you among those who are destined
to leave behind a legacy of grace that will be a source of ongoing blessing
(Thawaabul jaariyaa) for you for which you will be remembered with honor.

And if you remember do make dua for me.

Summary- Animal Farm

Animal Farm is a satirical fable about some farm animals who grow tired of serving man and start a revolution to run the farm themselves. The novel is an allusion to the Russian Revolution. Animal Farm is very rich in allegory. The characters of the novel symbolizes politicians. The story is told by an omniscient narrator. The book starts off with Old Majors vision for a classless society, however his vision is violated by the other pigs due to greed etc. The three major themes in the novel is:
• The social tendency toward class stratification.
• Power- Absolute power corrupts absolutely.
• The danger of a naïve working class can create a revolution.

Some information on the author of Animal Farm - George Orwell

Eric Arthur Blair was born on 25 June 1903 to British parents[3] in Motihari, Bengal Presidency, British India. His father, Richard Walmesley Blair, worked in the Opium Department of the Civil Service. His mother, Ida Mabel Blair (née Limouzin), took him to England when he was one year old. He did not see his father again until 1907, during Richard's three-month visit to England. Eric had two sisters; Marjorie, the elder, and Avril, the younger. He later described his family as "lower-upper-middle class".[4]
Education
At six, Eric attended the Anglican parish school in Henley-on-Thames, where he impressed the teachers. Blair's mother wanted him to have a good public school education, but the family finances were against this unless he could obtain a scholarship. Her brother Charles Limouzin, who lived on the South Coast, recommended St Cyprian's School, Eastbourne, Sussex. The headmaster undertook to help Blair to win a scholarship, and made a private financial arrangement which allowed Blair's parents to pay only half the normal fees. At the school, Blair formed a life-long friendship with Cyril Connolly (future editor of Horizon magazine, who later published many of his essays). Years later, Blair mordantly recalled the school in the essay "Such, Such Were the Joys". However, while there he wrote two poems that were published in his local newspaper, came second to Connolly in the Harrow History Prize, had his work praised by the school's external examiner, and earned scholarships to Wellington and Eton.
After a term at Wellington College, Blair transferred to Eton College, where he was a King's Scholar (1917–1921), and Aldous Huxley was his French tutor. Later, Blair wrote of having been relatively happy at Eton, because it allowed students much independence. His academic performance reports indicate that he ceased serious work there, and various explanations have been offered for this. His parents could not afford to send him to Oxbridge without another scholarship, and they concluded from the poor results that he would not be able to obtain one.
Work
During the majority of his career, Orwell was best known for his journalism, in essays, reviews, columns in newspapers and magazines and in his books of reportage: Down and Out in Paris and London (describing a period of poverty in these cities), The Road to Wigan Pier (describing the living conditions of the poor in northern England, and the class divide generally) and Homage to Catalonia. According to Newsweek, Orwell "was the finest journalist of his day and the foremost architect of the English essay since Hazlitt."
Modern readers are more often introduced to Orwell as a novelist, particularly through his enormously successful titles Animal Farm and Nineteen Eighty-Four. The former is often thought to reflect developments in the Soviet Union after the Russian Revolution; the latter, life under totalitarian rule. Elements in Nineteen Eighty-Four satirize "opium for the masses" found as central-character Winston Smith does (witness the newspapers filled with "sex, sport, and astrology" which the Ministry of Truth peddles to the proles). Nineteen Eighty-Four is often compared to Brave New World by Aldous Huxley; both are powerful dystopian novels warning of a future world filled with state control, the former was written later and considers perpetual war preparation in a nuclear age; the latter is more optimistic.

An unexpected twist...

At first I thought that the study of Animal Farm was going to be very monotonous as it has to do with animals, and I aint much of an animal love. However I was incorrect, as the study of this novel was very relevant to current issues etc. The novel made me view my world in a different way.

Certain isms that are found in the novel- Animal Farm

Communism is a socioeconomic structure that promotes the establishment of a classless, stateless society based on common ownership of the means of production.[1] It is usually considered a branch of the broader socialist movement that draws on the various political and intellectual movements that trace their origins back to the work of theorists of the Industrial Revolution and the French Revolution[2]. Communism attempts to offer an alternative to the problems believed to be inherent with capitalist economies and the legacy of imperialism and nationalism. Communism states that the only way to solve these problems would be for the working class, or proletariat, to replace the wealthy bourgeoisie, which is currently the ruling class, in order to establish a peaceful, free society, without classes, or government.[3] The dominant forms of communism, such as Leninism, Stalinism, Maoism, Trotskyism and Luxemburgism, are based on Marxism, but non-Marxist versions of communism (such as Christian communism and anarchist communism) also exist and are growing in importance since the fall of the Soviet Union.
Socialism refers to the goal of a socio-economic system in which property and the distribution of wealth are subject to control by the community.[1] This control may be either direct—exercised through popular collectives such as workers' councils—or indirect—exercised on behalf of the people by the state. As an economic system, socialism is often characterized by collective ownership of the means of production, goals which have been attributed to, and claimed by, a number of political parties and governments throughout history, due to this, socialism has been identified with communism mainly because the distribution of wealth is controlled as a whole and not individually.
Imperialism has two meanings, one describing an action and the other describing an attitude. Most commonly it is understood in relation to Empire building, as the forceful extension of a nation's authority by territorial conquest establishing economic and political domination of other nations. In its second meaning the term describes the imperialistic attitude of superiority, subordination and dominion over foreign peoples. Imperialism is often autocratic, e.g. in early 20th century Japan,[2] and sometimes monolithic [3] in character. While the term imperialism often refers to a political or geographical domain such as the Ottoman Empire[4] the British Empire,[5] or the Russian Empire,[6] etc, the term can equally be applied to domains of knowledge, beliefs, values and expertise, such as the empires of Christianity (see Christendom)[7] or Islam (see Caliphate).[8]

A colloquialism is an expression not used in formal speech, writing or paralinguistics. Colloquialisms denote a manner of speaking or writing that is characteristic of familiar "common" conversation; informal colloquialisms can include words (such as "y'all" or "gonna"), phrases (such as "ain't nothin'", "dressed for bear" and "dead as a doornail"), or sometimes even an entire aphorism. ("There's more than one way to skin a cat"). Dictionaries often display colloquial words and phrases with the abbreviation colloq. Colloquialisms are often used primarily within a limited geographical area. An example is for a soft drink. In the upper midwest, it is commonly called "pop", while in other areas its "soda." In the south, it is commonly called "Coke".
In political theory, democracy describes a small number of related forms of government and also a political philosophy. A common feature of democracy as currently understood and practiced is competitive elections. Competitive elections are usually seen to require freedom of speech, freedom of the press, and some degree of rule of law. Civilian control of the military is often seen as necessary to prevent military dictatorship and interference with political affairs. In some countries, democracy is based on the philosophical principle of equal rights.

Islam (Arabic: الإسلام; al-'islām (help•info)) is a monotheistic Abrahamic religion originating with the teachings of the Islamic prophet Muhammad, a seventh century Arab religious and political figure. The word Islam means "submission", or the total surrender of oneself to God (Arabic: الله, Allāh).[1] An adherent of Islam is known as a Muslim, meaning "one who submits (to God)".[2][3] There are between 1 billion to 1.8 billion Muslims, making Islam the second-largest religion in the world after Christianity.[4]
Maoism or Mao Zedong Thought (traditional Chinese: 毛澤東思想; simplified Chinese: 毛泽东思想; pinyin: Máo Zédōng Sīxiǎng), is a variant of Communism derived from the teachings of the late Chinese leader Mao Zedong (Wade-Giles Romanization: "Mao Tse-tung").
"Marxism consists of thousands of truths, but they all boil down to one: It's right to rebel against reactionaries."[1]
Nazism, commonly known as National Socialism,[1][2][3][4] (German: Nationalsozialismus), refers primarily to the ideology and practices of the Nazi Party under Adolf Hitler; and the policies adopted by the government of Nazi Germany from 1933 to 1945, a period also known as the Third Reich.[5][6][7][8] The official name of the party was Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei[9] (NSDAP) — “National Socialist German Workers’ Party”. The Nazis were one of several historical groups that used the term National Socialism to describe themselves, and in the 1920s they became the largest such group. Nazism is generally considered by scholars to be a form of fascism, and while it incorporated elements from the political left, it formed its most solid alliances on the political right.[10]
Nazism was not a monolithic movement, but rather a (mainly German) combination of various ideologies and groups, sparked by anger at the Treaty of Versailles and what was considered to have been a Jewish/Communist conspiracy (known in the vernacular as the Dolchstoßlegende or “Stab-in-the-Back Legend”) to humiliate Germany at the end of the First World War.
Among the key elements of Nazism were anti-parliamentarism, ethnic nationalism, racism, collectivism,[11][12] eugenics, antisemitism, opposition to economic liberalism and political liberalism,[13][14][12] opposition to finance capitalism with emphasis on Jewish conspiratorial involvement,[15] anti-communism, and totalitarianism.
Totalitarianism is a concept used in political science that describes a state that regulates nearly every aspect of public and private sectors. Totalitarian regimes or movements maintain themselves in political power by means of secret police, propaganda disseminated through the state-controlled mass media, personality cults, regulation and restriction of free discussion and criticism, single-party states, the use of mass surveillance, and widespread use of terror tactics.

Julius Caesar- Blurb

A close friend of Julius Caesar is cajoled into joining a group of conspirators due to their fear of Caesar becoming too powerful.
Julius Caesar is a play which deals with many themes such as: Loyalty, friendship, fertility, suicide and also love to certain extend.
The conspirator’s goal is achieved, but was it really for the better of Rome? Or had it just created more chaos? Decide for yourself….
